SELLERSBURG UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
All women are welcome to activities of the United Methodist Women. A person need not be a member of the United Methodist Church to be a part of this organization. We welcome you and urge you to visit any and all groups that might fit your interests and needs.
For more information, contact Phyllis Hunefeld at 812-246-4521.
Monthly meetings are held by two circles
Ø The New Adventurers Circle meets at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month. After the meeting and program, this group dines together at a local restaurant. They also trim stamps, box tops and labels for education to send to Red Bird or McCurdy schools. In June they have a summer outing and in December they go to Christie’s in Salem.
Ø The Lydia-Hazel Circle meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. They have an outing in December and once a year they visit an organization in the community dedicated to helping others. In 2008 they visited Gilda’s Club in Louisville and in 2009 they toured the Boys and Girls Club in New Albany.
Both circles normally hold their meetings at Sellersburg United Methodist Church.
The SUMW Unit, which consists of both circles, meets at least three times a year. The unit also hosts an annual Mother and Daughter event for the women of the church and their guests in May, and one Sunday a year the members participate in “UMW Sunday” church worship services.

The Emblem |
The official emblem for United Methodist Women, as well as for the United Methodist Church, combines the cross and the flame. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost. The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility. “I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you.” (II Timothy 1:6a NEB)
“They had been followers of Jesus and had cared for him while he was in Galilee. They and many other women had come with him to Jerusalem.” Mark 15:41 From the beginning of Christ’s ministry, women have played an integral role in the Church.
